Barry McGuigan MBE

Finbar Patrick McGuigan MBE, known as Barry McGuigan and nicknamed The Clones Cyclone, is a retired professional boxer from Clones, Ireland who became a World Boxing Association featherweight champion.


Barry was a fan favourite for British and Irish audiences, as he represented neutrality and peace in a time when Northern Ireland (which he resided in) was divided as part of The Troubles. He founded, and is the current President of, the Professional Boxing Association (PBA).


He represented Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Games at Edmonton 1978 and represented Ireland at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. 

He retired permanently from boxing in 1989. His record was 32 wins and 3 losses, with 28 wins by knockout. In January 2005, Barry was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
