Brian Blessed OBE

After Dinner & Event Speaker (in association with SpeakOut!)

Brian Blessed is one of the most instantly recognisable faces in the UK and if you haven't see him, you certainly will have heard him, as his legendary powerhouse of a voice booms out from our theatres and our TV screens.

Who can forget his famous shouts ''Chiswick! Fresh horses!'' to his courtier Lord Chiswick, when he played Richard IV in the first series of Blackadder with Rowan Atkinson.

Or the classic ''Gordon's Alive'' when he played the part of Prince Vultan in the film Flash Gordon.

There is also a serious side to Brian's acting having played numerous leading parts in Shakespearian adaptations for film and theatre.

Well before the famous beard arrived, Brian had parts in programmes like The Avengers and Randall and Hopkirk (deceased). His first major role though was in the 60's police drama Z Cars. Other roles on TV and in theatre swiftly followed, along with his first award for his portrayal of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus in the BBC's I, Claudius.

Throughout the 70's and 80's, he appeared more and more on camera with both classical and contemporary performances. In costumed TV movies Brian played Porthos in the Three Musketeers. His musical abilities saw Brian perform in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, playing both Old Deuteronomy and Bustopher Jones and in 2002 he took up the role of Baron Bomburst for the stage musical version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In more recent years Brian popped up as a guest presenter in Have I Got News For You, which is now considered a classic episode mainly due to Brian's manic performance as host which had team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton both bemused and, lost for words.

Away from the stage and screen Brian has an adventurous side to him that not everyone knows about. At the age of seventeen he climbed Mont Blanc and he has shown a keen interest in mountaineering ever since. He's made three attempts at Mount Everest and at the age of 55 in 1991, he attained the record of being the highest climber ever, at that age. The record stood for eighteen years but was then broken by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He has climbed all over the world. Another record which he holds, is for being the oldest man to trek on foot to the magnetic North Pole. Mountains, Jungles, Ice and Snow, Brian has just about done it all.

Brian Blessed has a charm and wit which makes him a popular speaker at events, awards and after dinner speaking.
