Dr. Marilyn Orcharton is a serial entrepreneur and qualified dentist with a Medal of Honour from the British Dental Association and honouree of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World (LWEW). She qualified as a dentist at Glasgow University in 1966 and after a spell at teaching, set up her own practice just outside Glasgow in1974.

In addition she was one of only five dentists in the UK who had an appointment as a medico legal adviser at the Medical Defence Union in London and was a Glasgow representative on the Local Dental Committee and eventually national chairman (first woman) of the LDC conference.

Marilyn also served on the General Dental Services Committee West of Scotland committee for Postgraduate education and was one of the first 'NHS vocational trainers' in Scotland.

During this time she realised that the National Health Service was not working for dentists or their patients and in 1986 she sold her practice to fund Denplan Ltd, a maintenance and insurance dental plan which she co- founded to complement the NHS which was failing the patients by encouraging "episodic"dentistry.

Denplan is still the leading dental healthcare plan in the UK with over 2million patients and with a multi million annual turnover.

The company was sold to Private Patient Plan in 1993 for forty million pounds, however Marilyn sold her share in 1992 and set up Isoplan a company dedicated to producing management software to assist all vocationally trained professionals who had no business training. Isoplan also has a very successful payment plan for dentists and vets.

She is co-owner of JIT International, a company that provides international training for overseas businesswomen, in particular former eastern block countries.

A great deal of her time is devoted to assisting small businesses to grow and develop and also to advise and encourage business start ups. She is a firm believer that the future success of the country lies in the hands of small businesses.

She was also a visiting surgeon to Glasgow Dental School and first female adviser at the Medical Defence Union in London.

She was the First Woman President of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in 1998.

A founder member of the Entrepreneurial Exchange, Marilyn founded the Scottish Association of Women Entrepreneurs.

She was a professional public speaker to business groups and 'after dinner' and is currently a director of the Genesis Initiative and the  Small Business Bureau two very successful  all party lobbying Groups based at Westminster.
