Jim Robertson was born and bred in Airdrie, and when asked if he has lived there all his life he replies “Not yet”.
He qualified as a lawyer over 40 years ago, and after working as a criminal defence solicitor in his home town, where he had no shortage of work, for 15 years he joined the Procurator Fiscal Service in 1989 and has had the opportunity of working in offices throughout Scotland such as Lanark, Hamilton, Stranraer, Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh.
He is now semi retired and works 3 days a week in Livingston.
Jim is a keen golfer and has been a member of the Golf House Club at Elie for nearly 30 years.
After more than 20 years on the After Dinner circuit, he is probably best known for speaking at golf dinners, both clubs and golf unions both in Scotland and England.
He also is highly respected for speaking at corporate and Rotary dinners, particularly mixed dinners as his material, which is always funny, is never offensive.
Jim has spoken at a number of Wit’s dinners and spoke 3 times at Wit’s dinners for St. Columba’s Hospice, being the only person to be voted Wit of the Year, Wit of Wits and Wittiest Wit of Wits.
He is a lover of the life and works of Robert Burns and has been honoured to speak at many prestigious Burns Suppers at home and abroad. In the last few years he has spoken at 2 of the largest events in Scotland, namely, the Bridgeton Burns Club and Westsound Radio Burns Supper and in 2009 he proposed the Immortal Memory at the largest Burns Club in the southern hemisphere in Cape Town, South Africa. He was President of Airdrie Burns Club in 2007.
