Justin Langer AM

After Dinner & Event Speaker (in association with SpeakOut!)

Justin Langer along with Matthew Hayden are Australia's most successful-ever opening pair in test cricket history. At the start of the 2003-04 season they averaged 68.13 runs per opening stand from 24 matches together including nine hundred plus stands, and seven more partnerships of between 50 and 99.

Justin and Matthew draw much satisfaction from their combined efforts and describe their on-field partnership as a 'team within a team'.

Western Australia's highest run scorer in the domestic one day competition Justin has also captained Western Australia (Western Warriors) since 2003.

Justin Langer has now been appointed captain of Somerset CCC for the 2007 season.

2001 - 2004 highlights
Justin's golden streak started when he was called up for the last test match of the Ashes series in England in August 2001 when he scored an unbeaten century. He followed this with scores of over a hundred in five out of seven test matches during the 2001-02 season. These included 102 against England at The Oval, 104 against New Zealand in Tasmania, 116 against South Africa in Adelaide and 126 against South Africa at the SCG in Sydney. He captained Australia A on its one-day tour of South Africa at the start of the 2002-03 season and led the side to 5-1 success, and was ING Player of the 2002-03 season with 431 runs in seven matches. During this season he also notched up his highest test score of 250 runs at the MCG against England. By the end of the 2003-04 season Justin achieved three double centuries and an individual tally of 22 test hundreds to overtake former cricketing icons Ian Chappell, Ian Harvey and Doug Walters. He was also the highest run-maker in world cricket during the 2004 calendar year with a total of 1481 runs.

2005 2006 highlights
Was Australia's best performed batsman in the 2005 Travelex Tour of England, topping both the batting averages and aggregates with 394 runs at 43.78. A rib injury sustained in an ING Cup match against Victoria at Melbourne ruled him out of the first two tests of the Australian summer against the West Indies.

Became the first West Australian to play 100 Tests for his country. Unfortunately Justins milestone will be remembered for the wrong reasons after he was knocked out by a Makhaya Ntini bouncer at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Scored a record breaking 348 for Somerset in English County Cricket during 2006 season.

2007 Highlights
Completed his Test Match Cricket career as a part of the Australian team that defeated England 5-0 in Australia to regain the Ashes. Justin scored a total of 303 runs in that series at an average of 43.28

Justin made his debut in Western Australian cricket in 1990 and made his Australian debut in the 199203 season at Adelaide Oval Australia vs. West Indies. He has toured West Indies, Pakistan, South Africa, Sharjah, Zimbabwe, India, England and New Zealand with the Australian team, and was a member of the squad named the 2002 Laureus World Team of the Year in Monte Carlo
