Tommy Docherty

Tommy Docherty is renowned as one of the most colourful characters in football - the man who often claims to have had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus!

The fast-talking, wisecracking Glaswegian is a stalwart of the After-Dinner circuit and is known throughout the country as THE DOC.

He has seen the world in a distinguished career with 12 clubs in four different countries and wherever the Doc has gone, his sharp sense of humour has helped him through good times and bad.

As a player he launched his career with Celtic, made 324 appearances for Preston and then moved further south with Arsenal and Chelsea.  He also won 25 caps for Scotland and

when Tom's playing days were over, he turned to management.

He lent his experience to a long list of clubs - Chelsea, Rotherham, Aston Villa, Oporto, Manchester United, Derby, Queen's Park Rangers, (3 Times), Sydney Olympic (twice), Preston and Wolves - with varying degrees of success.

It was under his guidance that Scotland also qualified for the 1974 World Cup Finals, but perhaps his most memorable success came at Old Trafford, where he created an exciting team which took Manchester United to the Second Division Championship in 1975 and F.A. Cup glory two years later.

His views on the game are constantly sought by radio, TV and the newspapers. Few others have his track record in the game.

The Doc has established himself as one of the UK's top after-dinner speakers.
